Q. What is the difference between Safety Glass and Insulated Glass?
A. Safety glass is used in situations where safety is an issue. One place you'll find safety glass is in doors. The Two different kinds of safety glass, are tempered and laminated. Tempered safety glass is heat treated, and once tempered can not be cut. It is very strong on the face of the glass, but one bump to the EDGE, and it will explode into thousands of tiny pieces. Laminated safety glass, is made by sandwiching a thin layer of flexible clear plastic film called polyvinyl butyral, between two pieces of glass. The plastic film holds the glass in place when the glass breaks, helping to lessen injuries from flying glass. Safety glass comes in single pane or double pane (Insulated glass). Insulated glass means that there are two panes of glass sealed as one unit. Insulated glass windows can be made of safety glass (Patio doors ) or annealed ( regular window glass )
