A mum who makes decorative plates boutique dress shops boutique dress shops satin cocktail dresses store , baskets and platters for Asian weddings has turned her hobby into a business venture after being inundated with requests from family and friends.

Nadia Arif, little flower girl dresses 33, from Ashton under Lyne, creates the items for pre-wedding celebrations known as the traditional mendhi evening - when a bride’s hands and feet are decorated with henna  - and for the big day itself.

At the mendhi, henna is placed on the plates, carried by the bridesmaids bridesmaids in a procession and laid out for guests to decorate their hands and feet.

Baskets and platters are used at the wedding to carry garlands and corsages for the bride and groom, silk flower dress pin and fresh fruit and mithai, which are Asian sweets, for the guests.

Nadia has had orders for six weddings so far this year and expects the rest of the summer and the beginning of autumn to be just as busy.

She set up Nadia’s Creations in July and her website received 700 visits in its first month. Nadia said she has been getting inquiries from brides-to-be and their families from all over Greater Manchester.

Nadia, who also works full-time as an adviser at the Manchester Citizens Advice Bureau, said: “It all started a year ago when my brother got married. I decided to take charge of all the decorations and wedding platters.

“It was fun decorating the plates, and filling the baskets with flowers, fruits and sweets; it really added that extra touch and it went down really well with the family, so every time a cousin got married, I was asked to take charge of the creative aspect of the celebrations.

“I also help out with room decorations wedding bridal flowers , and these days everything has to be matching with the colour theme of the wedding.

“Brides want that bit extra; gone are the days when a simple basket would have done. These days the baskets and plates not only have to match the colour theme, but they must look elaborate and have the wow factor.”

Nadia is now looking to venture into other areas of Asian wedding services, including stage design.
